Traditionally, it has been assumed that student teachers need to be equipped with a thorough knowledge of grammar as evidenced in such course as “Pedagogical Grammar” which is compulsory in most teacher training colleges. As vocabulary has gained more prominence in ELT, it has become evident that teachers should develop greater understanding of how second language vocabulary is acquired and how it should be taught effectively. The course highlights the latest insights from research into L2 vocabulary language acquisition while debunking some common misconceptions along the way. The practical goal of the course is to develop teachers’ skills in presenting, teaching and recycling new vocabulary.
